I am a member of and former membership co-chair of the
Bay
Area Editors' Forum. In 2001 I took a 6-month course,
"The Versatile
Copyeditor." I use the Chicago University Press Manual of Style. Because I don't
get to do this regularly,
I don't try to remember all the rules for my customers. I
focus on consistency and clarity - which is what they need from me.
I have copyedited Word documents that originated in Europe and have German and Italian styles, and a report for a project for the European Commission that had had at least a dozen different Europeans working on it. Fun.
In 2003, Verna and a colleague, Dinesh Chandra, co-edited a book, True Wealth
and How Do
We Create It, published by Indigo
Press in India. I was honored to copyedit and select art for
this unique
collection of essays, quotations, and poetry, including
an interview with His Holiness
the Dalai Lama.

Verna's book, The Knowledge Evolution: Expanding Organizational
Intelligence, was published in 1997,
before I was working with her.
In 2005, she helped Dr. Yong-Koo Kim of the Mirae Management Institute in Seoul to translate it into Korean.
I re-drew some of the diagrams - with labels in Korean.
I edited
Verna's
last book, The Future of Knowledge: Increasing Prosperity through
Value Networks, published in 2002 by Butterworth-Heinemann. We
sat side-by-side
at her dining room table. She re-wrote and re-arranged as I read.
Steve has an annual
conference,
attended by representatives of global action networks from all over the world.
One year I
got to attend, in Boston. I helped him with the participant binders -
formatting, and such.
One of the most challenging projects I have
ever done was to edit
long
bios of each of 20 of those important people -
down
to around 250 words each. I didn't want to take away any of their words!
